Gas Detonation Takes 3 Police Officers Amid Property Removal Operation in Italy

Three members of law enforcement lost their lives and more than a dozen people were hurt in what appears to be premeditated gas explosion at a farmhouse in Italy's north.

How It Happened

The detonation took place as law enforcement and fire personnel approached the house close to the city of Verona to carry out an court-ordered eviction for two brothers and a sister who were older adults.

Each of the three deceased individuals belonged to the Carabinieri military police.

Investigation Developments

A man and a woman were taken into custody at the scene and a third person who fled subsequent to the blast was found not long after. All three have been taken to hospital.

The explosion could be heard approximately 5 kilometers away and photographs from the scene showed the building turned into a pile of rubble.

“This is a time for grieving,” said Interior Minister the Interior Minister, who added that previous tries had been made to evict the three family members in the earlier times.
